Through this portal, you will complete your application, upload required documents and process your background check. Each step moves you closer to standing among a team of men and women dedicated to protecting their families, their communities, and the people of Texas.

The Aegis Unit follows a robust training program modeled on U.S. Army doctrine and guided by formal military personnel and local law enforcement officers. Our command structure is built on professionalism, discipline, and mutual trust. Prepare Before You Apply

To ensure your Vanguard application is processed efficiently and without delays, gather all required documents and set up a secure email account before beginning your application.

Required Documents

  • Driver’s License: Clear photos of the front and back.

If Applicable

  • Military Service Records: DD-214 or discharge paperwork for prior service.

  • Proof of Legal Residency: U.S. passport, green card, or other official documentation.

Optional / Recommended Documents

  • License to Carry Permit: If you have one, provide clear photos of the front and back.

  • Credentials & Certifications: EMT license, security license, prior service documentation, or other professional credentials.

  • Other Official Documents: Waivers, service records, or documents requested as part of your application.

Membership Criteria & Application Process

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age: Applicants must be 21 or older.

  • Background: Applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check. In some cases, a Texas License to Carry (LTC) may satisfy this requirement, significantly speeding up the application process.

  • Experience: Former military service members, as well as current or former law enforcement officers, are welcomed and encouraged to apply.

  • Firearms: Applicants must legally own a rifle.

Character Requirements

  • Each applicant will undergo a personal interview.

  • We do not accept individuals who demonstrate racism, sexism, bigotry, or any form of discrimination based on physical traits.

  • Applicants must show a dedication to supporting and defending constitutional freedoms.

  • Drug use and possession of illegal weapons are strictly prohibited.

Physical Requirements

  • Members are responsible for maintaining their own physical fitness; we do not conduct formal PT.

  • We welcome members of all physical capabilities over 21 years of age.

Application Process

All applicants must complete a processing period before being invited to train with the Vanguard Unit. This includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Interview – Personal discussion with leadership to assess suitability.

  2. Background Check – Ensuring legal compliance and security.

  3. Form Processing – Completion of internal, state, and occasionally federal documentation.

The Vanguard Unit follows strict procedures to protect your information and privacy.

Please Note: Clearance to train or gain membership is not guaranteed. Minimum attendance and training requirements are currently in place.

Privacy & Security Notice

All information you submit is transmitted securely using SSL/TLS encryption. Sensitive documents (such as your SSN, driver’s license, and other government-issued records) are received via encrypted email and used only for identity verification and background check purposes.

  • Payment Information: Texas Civil Guard does not collect or store payment card details. All payments are securely processed through Squarespace.

  • Background Checks: Required information is securely transmitted to our third-party provider, TruthFinder, for processing. Texas Civil Guard does not retain copies of your background check results. All submitted documents are purged once verification is complete.

  • Access Restrictions: Only authorized personnel may access your application materials, and your data will never be sold, traded, or disclosed outside the background check process.

    Prior service or certifications (EMT, security, survival, etc.) are welcome but not required.

  • Yes. All applicants must pay a one-time Background Screening Fee to cover the cost of a criminal and eligibility check. This fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance.

  • Once your application, documents, and background screening are submitted, our membership team will review your file. You may be contacted for follow-up questions or invited to attend an orientation/training session.

  • All documents and information are handled confidentially and used only for identity verification, background screening, and application evaluation.
